WiFi Seeker

wifi_seeker2

Ever find yourself in an airport or at Starbucks and wonder if it's worth booting up your laptop and trying to catch an 801.11 signal? Before you go to that much trouble, you can first whip out your handy WiFi Seeker.

This gadget will display one to four LEDs if it finds a wireless network. It can't tell you if you need a WEP key, but it at least lets you know if it's worth trying.

In my casual testing, it seems to work pretty well, usually erriing on the side of caution, i.e. if it displays even one LED you can probably connect. It's small enough to fit in your pocket or in your laptop bag.

It would make a great stocking-stuffer, but at $29.95 you probably want to save it for that special geek on your gift list.
